It’s the season of giving and every year ad agencies, busy as ever helping their clients push through their holiday marketing programs, find time to give back and help others do so as well.

Here are three examples.

Cincinnati-based Empower has launched GivingBackIsNotATrend.com which takes a nostalgic look back at some popular past trends (Harlem Shake, Ice Bucket Challenge among them) with a series of retro tote bags being offered for sale. Proceeds will be donated to charities like Harlem Activities Fund, Dress for Success and others.

Throughout the holiday season, Empower will launch 72-hour flash sales celebrating trends of the moment uncovered by its proprietary trend-identification tool CultureTap.
Meanwhile, creative agency Movers+Shakers, with offices in New York and Los Angeles, has launched its Merch Shop where the agency will sell merchandise inspired by the company’s core values. The shop will raise funds for charities selected by M+S employees, including Planned Parenthood, Big Brothers Big Sisters of America and The Trevor Project.

The Movers+Shakers team created designs for products including casual clothing, coffee mugs and other items. Each is emblazoned with a tagline familiar to the industry like “Work Doesn’t Have to Suck,” “Moving at the Speed of Culture,” “Please Tell Me My Idea is Good,” and “Disrupt.”

Instead of sending Harry & David baskets or digital greetings like most companies, the agency will be distributing gift cards for the M+S Merch Shop to partners, employees, and clients.

Separately agency Six+One has created its latest pop-up shop in the New York City area to support people experiencing homelessness.

Guests receive a branded gift card to get three new outfits, haircuts, and other items for themselves and their families. The stores are created at vacant storefronts in low-income neighborhoods where guests can request sizes and try on items at their leisure.

The agency has recruited sponsors for the effort including Centric Brands (Caterpillar, Buffalo Jeans, Tommy Hilfiger, Nautica, Calvin Klein) Steve Madden, Sean John, L’Oreal.
