In February, Africa Magic announced entries for the ninth edition of the Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards. Later in March, the awards announced an extension, and that was just what the industry needed.

At the recently held AMVCA press conference at the Mariott Lagos Hotel, the Executive Head of Content and West Africa Channels at MultiChoice, Dr Busola Tejumola, shared that the prestigious awards received over 40% more entries this year than the previous one.

The press conference was also an avenue to share plans for the ninth edition of the AMVCAs. The event will hold between May 18 and 20, 2023. It will celebrate film production talents, culture, fashion, music and other elements of African entertainment.

Dr Tejumola said, “In the last eight years, the AMVCA has become the unit by which excellence is measured and recognised. This 9th edition of the AMVCAs stands in a unique position, hosted in the 20th year of Africa Magic operations in Nigeria and at a point when cinematic output across Africa is entering a phase of global recognition and appreciation. This year, in partnership with Amstel and Zagg Energy Drink, we will be hosting a 3-day event that has begun with the call to entry which ended March 17. We have a 40% increase in entries compared to the last edition. Shortlisting has begun, and we will soon move to the judging phases.”

Africa Magic will reveal the nominees at 7 pm on April 9, 2023, across all Africa Magic channels. Fans will have voting access in specific categories for their best films, actors, or social media content creator.

The ninth edition of the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards is brought to you by Africa Magic in association with MultiChoice. Amstel Malta is the headline sponsor.
