CWAY group has advocated for water security and responsible use of water on the occasion of this year’s World Water Day celebration.
A marine scientist at the University of Lagos, Dr Roland Uwadiae, in a keynote address during the World Water Day celebration in Lagos, organised by CWAY Group, noted that since 1993, World Water Day is celebrated annually on March 22, to raise awareness and inspire action to tackle the global water crisis affecting 2.2 billion people living without access to safe water and sanitation.
Uwadiae said there was a need to educate the public to mobilise resources to address global problems relating to water management and reinforce the achievements of humanity.
He noted that water is the most important resource available to humanity but the most undervalued, abused and wasted natural resource by humans.
He dispelled assumptions that there was no limit to which water can absorb waste because of its self-purification mechanism, noting that the assumption was false and erroneous.
Similarly, the Chief Operating Officer of Lagos Water Corporation, Deji Johnson, said the availability of water was directly proportional to the increasing population.
Johnson noted that the demand for water in Lagos was 650 million gallons of daily, adding that the state could only produce 210 million gallons of water daily for its citizens.
On his part, Sales Director, CWAY Group, Abiodun Suleiman, said that the company organised the event as part of its commitment to promote sustainable clean water and conservation.
Suleiman said the firm, through its various corporate social responsibility initiatives, had provided access to safe water to communities that lack access to water.
