National institute of marketing of Nigeria, NIMN,  a body saddled with responsibility of regulating and controlling of marketing profession in Nigeria, says to drive the compliance and enforcement   of its Act  it has constituted a compliance committee.

 

President and chairman in council of the institute, Tony  Agenmonmen, in Lagos, disclosed this as part of efforts  to drive the compliance and enforcement unit of the institute in a press briefing tagged, Shaping the future of marketing in Nigeria.

 

According to him, ‘’we have instituted a compliance committee that shall be working with other relevant arms of the institute nationwide.’’

 

Among other things, ‘’the President  said the institute will see to the effective communication of the institute’s compliance move as well as to ensure seamless flow for all law abiding marketers intending to regularize their membership via all the avenues made available by the institute.’’

 

He also lamented saying; ‘’As it stands today, there are thousands of marketing professionals who are not registered with the institute. By the position of the law, they are clearly in violation of the NIMN Act and currently practicing illegally. The responsibility for compliance is both that of the individuals and the companies that employ them.’’

 

‘’Our approach to enforcement is to avoid the use of force, except this is a very last resort. We are convinced that it is in the collective interest of all true marketing professionals and marketing organizations to support the efforts to ensure that only true and qualified marketers, practice marketing.’’

 

He further stated, ‘’line with our preference for a non-use of force in driving compliance, we have accordingly created a time window and opportunity for all those currently practicing marketing illegally to comply with the provisions of the law.’’
