One of the frontline creative shop in Nigeria, Centrespread has pulled a fast one on the industry practitioners by persuading the owner of UB40 Advertising Limited, Mr. Sola Lawson to abandon his ailing agency to resume at Centrespread as Managing Director.

Mr. Lawson had long resumed as the managing director of Centrespread.

UB40 Advertising came to the light in the early 2000 when it created Starcom’s “We Speak Your Language” campaign. Despite that beautiful the code division multiple access brand still kissed the dust.

The arrival of Lawson at Centrespread has also call for some restructuring. Mr. Wale Akintunde, who stepped in after Doyin Adewunmi threw in the towel has been moved to occupy group chief operating officer while the founder and managing director until Lawson’s arrival has now been promoted to group chief executive officer.

The move according to sources in the advertising company is strategic one aims at reviving the Centrespread and plunge it back into reckoning once again.

It might be early days to judge Lawson, who made his mark in the industry with defunct Starcom creative campaign in 2004. However industry observers said the once respected and highly creative individual had lost touch with industry he once held sway when I abandoned the business for golf.

Sola Lawson is a thorough  marketing communication specialist in advertising, direct marketing, PR, OOH and promotions. His work experience spans 26 years servicing blue chip companies and SME’s in Telcomms, FMCG, Financial Services, Beverages and Manufacturing.

Until his new position, Lawson was the CEO, Space Contractors Limited 13 years, CEO, UB40 Advertising Ltd for 21 years and CEO Professional Golfers’ Association Nigeria Tour between August 2007 and December 2011 (4 years 5 months).

Prior to establishing his firms, Lawson had worked at STB McCann from 1993 to 1995 as group head with responsibility to develop and manage the Marketing Communication strategies for Coca-Cola and Nestle account groups.

From 1990 to 1993, the young Lawson then was the Senior Account Executive at Insight Communications, where he was saddled with the task of servicing the marketing communication needs of brands in FMCG, finance, automobiles, tobacco, food and beverage.
