Stakeholders in the cakes and sugar industry have resolved to standardise and improve professionalism in the sector.

The President, Nigerian Association of Cakes and Sugar Craft Professionals, Tosan Jemide, disclosed this during the maiden edition of the association’s conference.

Jemide said the association would be working with critical stakeholders as well as regulatory authorities to drive professionalism and standard in the sector.

While welcoming critical stakeholders to the conference, he assured that it was the advent of a new dispensation in the cake industry.

“This will herald a series of revolutionary changes within the space creating more mutually beneficial partnerships in our ecosystem and greater value for the industry as a whole,” he assured.

He also decried the influx of substandard products which posed a dire danger to the industry and health of Nigerians.

According to him, “On several occasions, we have encountered cases of substandard or adulterated products. Sometimes inedible items are passed off as edible.”

He added that “There are also specific needs that are also crucial to the industry and are currently not being met which we would like to bring to the attention of the relevant stakeholders.”

Meanwhile, during the panel session, members of the Association urged flour manufacturers to up their game on the availability of the products as well as ensure consistency in the quality of the products.
