In 2016, Total launched a competition called the Africa Startuppers Challenge 2016, where some Nigerian innovators competed by showcasing their projects One hundred and ninty fopur thousand three hundred (1,943) projects were submitted and evaluated out of which 3 were selected.

Total Nigeria’s overall winner of the competition, Opeyemi Owosho is the founder of Fitco Technology Company. This is the only company that locally manufactures table top gas stoves in Nigeria.

Opeyemi, alongside the other two best projects received the Startupper Award by Total on April 22, 2016, incubation training courses and financial assistance to launch their businesses with the aim of creating employment and boosting the Nigerian economy.

The second runner up, Emeka Nwachinemere is set to launch Kitovu, Nigeria’s Premier Mobile App.

Emeka is the second runner up of Total Nigeria 2016 Startupper Challenge. He created KITOVU; a multilingual mobile application that creates market access for farmers through linking them with buyers seeking high quality produce that are traceable.

It helps reduce post-harvest losses and wastages whilst increasing farmers’ income.

Meanwhile, Uzoma Eleke has created the future of environmentally friendly energies. The first runner up of Total Nigeria 2016 Startupper Challenge was Eleke. She founded Zeta Prime Alternative Technology, an organisation focused on taking actions today that would help define the future of more environmentally friendly energies.

They are utilizing the technology of anaerobic digestion to convert food waste, municipal and agricultural wastes into cooking gas, quality organic fertilizers and electricity.
