In a bid to checkmate the gradual extinction of African languages, especially in Nigeria, Working Moms Africa would be hosting a seminar to mark the International Day of Mother Language .
In a press statement signed by Mrs Mary Ikoku, the CEO of Working Moms Africa, the seminar, which is billed to hold at City Lodge, 2nd Roundabout Lekki on Friday, February 26th 2016 will be working with the theme “Quality Education, Language(s) of Instruction and Learning Outcomes.
She also explained that the hashtag, “#InYourMotherTongue would be it’s sub-theme and the epoch-making event will hold from 10am – 2pm.
Ikoku, who publishes the famous Working Moms Magazine revealed that 21 February this year (yesterday) marked the 17th edition of International Mother Language Day (IMLD).
Her words: “International Mother Language Day aims to promote linguistic and cultural diversity, as well as multilingualism. It also encourages quality learning.
“To mark the day, Working Moms Africa Magazine, a publication of The Access Media Ltd will on the 26th of February host an International Seminar tagged #InYourMothersTongue, a seminar to discuss preserving and developing our cultural heritage and spreading awareness of our mother tongues in order to encourage diversity and even inspire us to take up learning a new language.
“Working Moms insists on the importance of appropriate languages of instruction, usually mother tongues, in early years of a child: formal and non-formal education must deliver quality education for all learners by taking a multilingual approach, which has great potential for achieving development goal 4 of the Agenda 2030.
Everyone, including Teachers, Educationist & All Providers of Knowledge; Parents, Guardians, Care-givers; Government Officials, Institutions of learning, Civil Society Organisations, Clerics, the Media, Culture Experts, Socio-Cultural Organisations, All Relevant Stakeholders.
