As Nigeria joins the rest of the world to celebrate the World Quality Day (WQD) on the 8 of November this month, the World Quality Alliance has concluded plans to hold the Global Quality Excellence Awards to recognize excellence, quality conformance and promote awareness of the important contribution that quality make toward a nations growth and prosperity.

 

Ifeoma Favour Emeka, Secretary, Award General Committee, at a press briefing to announce the award scheduled for the Lagos Sheraton Hotel, said in a global economy where success depends on quality, innovation and sustainability, the award reinforces these commitment as foundation for improving brands and business performance.

 

With the theme this year as’ Quality: a Question of Trust’, Favour noted that the World Quality Alliance with the support of the Chartered Institute of Quality have made an alliance to intensify relationship promote global commitment to quality and their application in all segment of the society.

 

Speaking on trust as the theme for this year, the secretary explained that trust is a hard earned commodity but can be squandered in a moment, hence the need to celebrate the roles that everyone in an organization plays in building and sustaining trust among stakeholders, customers, suppliers, regulators and the whole society.

 

“Hardly a day passes without reading about quality failure and its impact on stakeholders, organisations and the corresponding question on integrity and competence. The quality management profession is about helping organisations put in place competent system to ensure that the activity of an organization delivers on its promises to customers and stakeholders.

 

These systems of governance, assurance and improvement combined, with your culture of quality are your investment in trust and reputation”, adding further that the quality profession is a business partner in enhancing trust in organisations.

 

She used the occasion to call on relevant stakeholders including the Standard organization of Nigeria, SON to support and take ownership of the award, stressing that a country that does not thrive on quality may not survive the fourth industrial revolution which is anchored on technology.

 

The quality award will be given in different categories including individual categories such as CEO of the year, Best Customer Service Professional of the year; Quality Excellence Award in Manufacturing, Banking, Financial Services, Hospitality, Travels and Tourism Sectors; Pharmaceutical And Biotechnology Sectors. Other categories include Business Process Excellence and Project Awards.

 

The Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo is expected to grace the occasion as special guest, while Dr. Okechukwu Enelamah, Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment and Mr. Osita Aboloma, the director general of Standards organization of Nigeria are also be expected to attend the event. Other international speakers include John McElligott, CEO and founder of York Exponential; Jim Duarte, Principal I J Duarte and Associates Ltd;  Rebekah Kowalski, Vice President, Right Management, a manpower Group Company, among others.

 

Organisers of the award also listed some of the benefits of participating in the award to include improving business and brand performance; reinforcing organizational and brand value; providing insight into achievement level relative to the WQA and CQI  award criteria and exposing company brand strength and opportunities for improvement through feedback report.
