· Highlights achievements in first tenure

Osamede Uwubanmwen, Commercial Director, Biogenerics Nigeria Limited has been reelected as the President of Advertisers Association of Nigeria, (ADVAN) for a second term ending any form of speculations that he may lose his position as a result of his stand against the new advertising law and reform.

Osamede won the election unopposed and promised to continuously advance the interest of advertisers in the country. Returning along with are Tolu Olanipekun, Head of Marketing, Mouka Foam as executive council member, Omolara Banjoko, Marketing Manager, FrieslandCampina as executive council member and O’tega Ogra, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Digital Economy moved from executive council member position to second vice president and Ediri Ose-Ediale, CEO/Executive Director ADVAN, as CEO/Executive Director

Yusuf Murtala, Marketing Director, The Coca-Cola Company and Akinrimisi Olabode Samuel, Deputy Marketing Director, CWay Foods and Beverages, and Adeola Emmanuel Amosun, Group Media Manager, Tolaram were elected 1st Vice President, Treasurer and publicity secretary respectively, while Dr Tola Bamigbaiye -Elatuyi, Marketing Director, Pladis, Roseline Abaraonye, Head of Marketing, Hayat Nigeria LTD, Maurice Igugu, CMO, Sterling Bank have been elected executive council members.

However, Yosola Atere, Marketing Director West Africa & Francophone Sub Saharan Africa · Head Brand Management (Brand Custodian for FCMB Group and its Subsidiaries), Chioma Afe, Director, External Affairs & Sustainability, Seplat Energy, Kenneth Iruonagbe, Group Digital Brand Manager, Tolaram Group, Seni Ogunkola, Marketing Communications Manager, 9mobile and Obumneke Okoli, National High-End Planning & Execution Manager, Anheuser-Busch InBev did not return.

For the 2022-2024 report of activities of ADVAN Executive Council made available to The Industry, the report says “At the inaugural meeting of the 2022 -2024 ADVAN Executive Council, it was unanimously agreed that ADVAN needed to re-evaluate its objective to speak to the realities of members’ needs, that the focus for the new Exco would be to create tangible value for advertisers and ensure that this was adequately communicated to members as well as relevant stakeholders.”

According to the report, it was agreed that the Executive council would focus on five critical areas which were: Public Sector Engagement and Advocacy, Training and Development, Value Based Networking Platforms, Stakeholder Engagement and relevant Collaborations and Provision of Accurate Data and Insight.

“These focal points would serve as the basis of programs and collaborations throughout the tenure, and that the adherence to this outlined agenda would ensure that the association became an indispensable part of the life of all advertisers and the marketing communications industry,” said Ose-Ediale

“For public sector engagement and advocacy, the need for public sector engagement cannot be overemphasized, adding that ‘ADVAN has a mandate to present and protect the rights and interests of client-side marketers,” CEO ADVAN added.

“Advertisers as significant contributors to the marketing industry and the GDP of Nigeria, so we have a fundamental duty in requesting inclusivity, transparency and accountability from our regulators.”

She stated that “Our engagement of the public sector includes the Ministry of Trade and Investment-We are happy to report that we have had several engagements with the Ministry of Trade as well as some of their agencies, the objective of these consistent meetings is to be a part of the policy creation stage of the agency. Representatives of the Ministry and its agencies will be part of our stakeholder dialogue happening today”
