Executive Secretary, MTN Foundation, Odunayo Sanya, recently spoke to the postgraduate students of the School of Media and Communications, Pan-Atlantic University. She encouraged them to focus on the present and make the best use of their current situation, rather than waiting for the future. She made this statement during the ‘Meet the expert’ series on Wednesday, May 17, 2023 held at the university’s campus in Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos.

The ‘Meet the Expert’ series is an opportunity for Media and Communication students to interact with leaders and subject matter experts in their field. The series is an opportunity for students to learn from some of the brightest minds in the industry and gain invaluable insights that will help them in their future careers.

Odunayo shared her career journey and rise to becoming the MTN Foundation’s Executive Secretary. She highlighted several valuable life lessons that will serve as a guide to the students as they proceed on their career paths.

“As you journey in life, a good performance will get you a step in the door, it might not necessarily provide opportunities, but it will put you ahead of others. It is also important to have an open mind wherever you find yourself. Be ready to learn”

“You must also learn to take responsibilities whether you are at fault or not, always take responsibilities. One hard lesson you should also note is that you will take decisions by yourself, no one will help you. The best anybody can do is to advise you, but the major decisions will be taken by you.” she stated.

Odunayo encouraged the students to make the best of their youthfulness, by upskilling, being innovative, and taking part in initiatives targeted at youth development, as organizations are always on the lookout to work with skilled youths.

She also mentioned that the MTN Foundation is highly invested in youth development and highlighted a couple of initiatives like the ICT and Business Skills training, Theatre and Arts support and scholarship initiatives. She laid emphasis on the ongoing MTN Foundation scholarship for undergraduate students, and encouraged them to visit www.mtn.ng/scholarships, and share with people around them who can benefit from it.
