Netflix continues its dominance in the streaming world when it comes to the actual volume of content — releasing a massive 1,160 episodes in the fourth quarter of 2022, according to data from HarrisX and MoffettNathanson Research.

This is four times that of second place Amazon Prime Video — which released 323 episodes in the quarter. Disney is next with 207 episodes, with Hulu at 174. All three have witnessed rising episodes year-over-year.

In comparison, six Netflix streaming competitors total 1,220 original episodes.

Total streaming minutes — from all platforms (individual premium streaming service, virtual pay TV providers, etc.) grew 47% in the fourth quarter versus the year-ago period, the research says.
The biggest gainer over the period — in terms of percentages — was DirecTV’s Stream service, up 175%, largely due to transitioning DirecTV satellite TV subscribers.
Peacock was next — up 145% year-over-year — followed by Tubi (121% higher), Roku Channel (up 97%) and Pluto TV (up 58%).

HBO Max was the only subscription video-on-demand service tracked by Nielsen to outpace the industry average — at 66%, according to the data. Other big streamers included Disney+, 45% higher; Amazon Prime Video, which added 42%; Hulu, which gained 33%; and Netflix, 27% higher.

Apple TV+ was the lone streamer to see a decline — down 12%, due to the absence of the hit “Ted Lasso,” which did not offer new episodes in the period
