Chinese auto brands are currently ruling the truck market in Nigeria, the Executive Director of Lanre Shittu Motors, Mr. Taiwo Shittu, has declared.

Shittu, who spoke in an interview with journalists in Lagos, also explained why locally assembled vehicles are still expensive and beyond the reach of average Nigerians.

He said the Chinese trucks are not only found to be far cheaper than those from Europe and America but had improved greatly in quality.

He said, “They (Chinese trucks) have taken over the market; it’s not only in Nigeria, it’s everywhere. It’s not just about low pricing but also in terms of quality.”

“The truth is that Chinese brands have come to stay. In the area of truck, you either align with them or you get out of the business. They are getting better every day and these trucks working well. We have a lot of key players  using the trucks. how many European trucks can you see on the road,” he queried.

According to Shittu, Chinese brands occupy the first three positions among leading truck companies in Nigeria in terms of volume of sales.

He recalled that in 2014 when Lanre Shittu Motors signed the dealership of the JAC trucks, it was rated number nine but today, we are the third highest selling heavy-duty trucks in Nigeria
