In line with its determination to stamp out hunger in Nigeria as enshrined in the United Nations SDG 2, Junior Chamber International (JCI) Atlantic under its project, codenamed JCI Atlantic Foodbank has partnered with several different food making/processing companies, Farmers and Public Spirited Individuals to provide food items as well as farm produce to tackle hunger in different part of Nigerian, especially Lagos.

Explaining this humanitarian project to the media in Lagos on Friday, Team Lead JCI Atlantic Foodbank, Mrs. AdejokeAyanwale-Farinu explained that the decision to support residents of hunger-ridden community was informed by the need to greatly contribute to the vision of United Nations and allied organizations which targets a global goal to end hunger by 2030.

According to Mrs. Ayanwale-Farinu, three strategic food banks in the city of Lagos have been created to receive food donations from public spirited individuals, corporate organizations and non-governmental organizations. She stated that with such food banks as these in place, it would be much easier for collection of food items/farm produce contributed from different coffers to feed the hunger-ridden individuals at locations of dense population.

Mrs.Ayanwale-Farinu reiterated the commitment of the non-government organisation to the adoption of United Nations Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 2 which states that “Zero hunger, achieve food security and improved nutrition, and promote sustainable agriculture”.

While describing the massive impact of last year’s execution of this project, Mrs. Ayanwale-Farinu explained that the organisation contributed to the global goal to end hunger through the first edition of the program in 2017, “it gladdens our heart that this project is fast yielding big fruits as some other NGO has step up to join the ‘zero hunger’ drive as the number of people going to bed hungry reducing by the day in Lagos

“We conducted a post evaluation survey after executing the project last year and we are glad that our efforts to reduce hunger is yielding result. We believe it is something to be happy about and that is why we are back, bigger and better this year. We know that reducing hunger not only contributes to better health but will also contribute to a reduction in crime”.

“We appreciate the support received from corporate agencies and individuals and call for more support, because together, we can achieve great things” Mrs. Ayanwale-Farinu said.
