Multichoice Nigeria, a pay-TV provider, has revealed another price increase of at least 19% for all of its DStv and GOtv packages.

Multichoice added that the most recent increase, which is the second one this year after the first one was put into force on May 1, 2023, will go into effect on Monday, November 6.

This time, the company is announcing a 19 to 20% increase across all of its packages, compared to the 16.3% to 18% increase that was announced in May, depending on the bouquet.

Customers on the DStv Premium plan will pay N29,500 for their monthly subscription starting on November 6, a 20% increase from the N24,500 they are now paying, according to the letter emailed to its subscribers.

Additionally, the monthly cost of the Compact+ bouquet has gone up by 19% to N19,800 from N16,600.

According to DStv, customers on its Compact bouquet would now pay N12,500 instead of the N10,500 they are already paying, a 19% increase; similarly, customers on the Confam bundle will pay N7,400, a 19% increase from the N6,200 they are currently paying.

Viewers of DStv Yanga bouquet will now pay N4,200 per month for their subscription under the new pricing structure, which is a 20% increase over the N3,500 they now pay.

Customers purchasing GOtv’s Supa Plus bundle would now pay N12,500, a 19% increase from the existing N10,500 pricing, according to Multichoice. Instead of charging N6,400 as it does today, its Supa bouquet will cost N7,600.

The cost of a GOtv Max subscription has also gone up, from N4,850 to N5,700, and the Jolli bundle is now N3,950 instead of N3,300. Customers of Multichoice’s lowest GOtv bundle, Jinja, would now pay N2,700 per month instead of the N2,250 they were previously paying, the company said.

Although Multichoice has not yet released an official statement regarding the new price increase, the firm did announce the initial increase in May and blamed economic challenges.

The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) reports that Nigeria’s inflation rate rose from 25.80% in August 2023 to 26.72% in September.

“Due to the various economic challenges impacting our business operations, we have had to review the price of our packages to continue delighting our customers with great entertainment, anytime and anywhere.

“MultiChoice acknowledges the difficult economic climate and thus kept the increase at the lowest possible point whilst ensuring sustainability and provision of quality services,” it said in May.
