The President of the Nigerian Association of Engineers (NSE), Engr. Margaret Oguntala has said that she will lead inclusively and promote Nigeria’s technological advancement.

In a New Year message to members of Nigeria’s foremost professional association, NSE, she said, “As we journey together, I acknowledge the trust that you all have invested in me and I hereby make a promise that this trust will not be betrayed. Together, we shall propel the fortunes of our great society upwards, free from hindrances and unburdened by prejudices or sentiments of any colouration.”

She believes that the NSE can support Nigeria’s drive to significantly improve its infrastructure. “Our administration will lead with an inclusive and progressive mindset; pursuing programmes that promote the technological advancement of our beloved country as well as create the desired visibility for our Society in the appropriate corridors,” She said.

Oguntala, the 34th and first female president of the NSE assumed office on January 1, 2024. The official investiture ceremony for her and other new executives of the society holds on January 20 in Abuja.

Some special guests expected to be present at the event include Nigeria’s President, Bola Tinubu; Senate President, Godswill Akpabio; House of Representatives Speaker, Hon. Abbas Tajudeen; Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike; and other prominent government and private executives..

While the excitement among members is rooted in Mrs. Margaret Oguntala’s strong attributes, the historical significance of her presidency adds to the anticipation surrounding the inauguration. In a time when gender balance is a critical concern, especially in Nigeria, where women make up only 18.75% of the federal cabinet against the 35% benchmark, Mrs. Margaret Oguntala’s election as President-Elect of NSE is indeed a cause for celebration.

Oguntala, a three-time Vice President of the association, holds an impressive record, having received over 53 awards.
