  • Star, Amstel Malta bankroll the partnership

Nigerian Breweries Plc today signed what is said to be biggest sponsorship deal with the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) for the Super Eagles for the first 5 years.

The signing of the partnership agreement inside Nigerian Breweries premises was witnessed by officials of NFF, former super Eagles players and top officials of NB plc.

The agreement will have two of Nigerian Breweries Plc’s biggest brands, Star Lager and Amstel Malta headlining the partnership as official alcoholic and malt beverages of the National Football Teams of Nigeria.

According to sources, the deal is said to worth N2.2billion, an average of N44 million per annum.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Jordi Borrut Bel, MD/CEO, Nigerian Breweries Plc, said, “Nigerian Breweries Plc identifies with the Nigerian passion for the game of football, as well as the desire and expectation for more groundbreaking feats by the national teams. We are delighted to be partnering with the Nigerian Football Federation to celebrate this true passion that is fueled by patriotism, resilience and desire for victory, through the platform of Football”.

Describing the historic nature of the agreement, Mr. Amaju Pinnick, the NFF President stated, “This strategic partnership that we are unveiling today is very significant, not only because of what the NFF and the national football teams stand to gain, but also because of what is in it for the fans and supporters of Nigerian Football. The benefits of having Star and Amstel Malta as official alcoholic and malt beverages of the national teams respectively will ultimately help the Federation build on its recent achievements”.

With the kick off of the partnership, Star, Nigeria’s most iconic lager beer, becomes the Official Alcoholic Beverage of the National Teams, while Amstel Malta, the premium malt drink, becomes the Official Malt Drink of the Nigerian National Football Teams. The two brands will be providing support to players and coaching crews, as well as premium enjoyment to passionate fans that will be cheering the teams during and after their matches.

This partnership is particularly significant, coming in a year the Super Eagles will be competing at 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia. With the Super Eagles squad abounding with experienced players and young talents, the fans will have high hopes for the team and will be expecting them to shine on to greater success.
